Insurance for Pre-existing Conditions: What to do if you are disabled and lose your job and your health inurance?

Many Social Security disability claimants have no medical insurance while they were waiting for a favorable decision on their claims. The following information from a May 31, 2011, press release issued by the US Department of Health and Human Services, may be a viable option:

Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP)
This federally-funded program is called the California Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP). The PCIP offers health coverage to medically-uninsurable individuals who live in California. The program is available for individuals who have not had health coverage in the 6 months prior to applying. The California PCIP is run by the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board (MRMIB).
